We are proud to have run our House League program for the last three years, one of only two associations in Ontario to have done so. Our all-volunteer team is excited to deliver a fun program in 2024. The goal — as always — is to provide a safe and positive environment in which to instill confidence, promote the benefit of sport, and foster skill improvement. Read on for some exciting updates, and register at the bottom of this page.

Back for 2024

  • Baseball Canada's Rally Cap program, in partnership with the Toronto Blue Jays, returns in place of our Tee-Ball programme. The newly-refreshed Rally Cap program enhances players' and coaches' first baseball experience. As a flagship Rally Cap program, we were honoured to be asked to shoot Rally Cap promotional and instructional videos this year; watch the first video here (and on Hockey Night in Canada!), and learn more about Rally Cap.
  • Investing in Coaches, improving our programme: We're investing in you, and thus our, success:  Indicate your interest in becoming a Head Coach during the registration process to learn more; new coaches are welcomed!
  • Baseball Day in Oshawa returns. Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 15. More details to come.

Need to know

What equipment does my child need to play?
See our list here.

Play it Again Sports in Whitby stocks a wide range of reasonably priced baseball gear. You may also consider other local sports stores or Canadian Tire. Aside from cleats (optional), most gear will last kids at least a few years.

We Will Provide:

  • Team jersey with Major League team name (may differ for Rally Cap)
  • Team hat
  • Team equipment (bats, balls, bases, etc.)
  • Catcher's equipment

Parents Must Provide:

  • Helmet with chin strap (must be CSA-approved, recommended Rawlings Cool Flo One size fits all helmet).
  • Glove suitable for the level of play: easy to flex fingers, especially for younger players.
  • Grey Baseball Pants
  • Running/athletic shoes

Optional:

  • Baseball Cleats (non-metal spikes) are recommended but not necessary (especially at the tee ball level).
  • Baseball Oshawa provides bats, but players may wish to bring their own and should be coach-approved (Up to Peewee: aluminum, Bantam: aluminum/wood/wood composite)
  • Baseball Belt
  • Jock/Jill is strongly recommended for older age groups and for those who wish to catch at the Minor Rookie and Rookie levels.

Can my child play "up" a division?
Players may play in a division no more than one year older than their birth year. All requests must be submitted by email to the Registrar prior to April 29. Note that for 2024, division consolidation is a strong possibility, which will mean that some age groups will play together.

Can my child play "down" a division to play with their sibling/friend?
We generally do not allow children to play down a division. Rare exceptions to this rule, especially as a result of players missing time from COVID-19 restrictions, will be at the discretion of the House League Director.

What if my child has never played organized baseball before?
No experience is necessary; House League is all about playing the game as a team, with the comfort of developing skills at an individual pace. Many teams, no matter the age level, typically have players who are new to the game.

How many games and practices will the teams play?
Teams will play 17-20 regular-season events, depending on the number of teams in the division. This will consist of 10-12 games and 7-8 practices. Beginning in the Rookie division, teams typically play at least 2 playoff games.

When will I hear what team my child is on?
You will hear what team your child has been placed in early to mid-May.

Can I volunteer for my child's team?
Volunteers run the show at Baseball Oshawa, and we'd gladly consider your application. Please see here for more information.
