Rally Cap is an initiative to enhance players' and coaches' first experience with the game. The program helps teams teach players the five FUNdamentals of baseball in a fun and safe environment. Learn more about the program by watching the new Rally Cap commercial, filmed with our very own Baseball Oshawa Rep and House League players at Durham College.
Goals
1. Create a fun environment in which children and adults are actively engaged together in the game of baseball.
2. Develop fundamental motor skills, teach baseball skills, and basic rules to our players.
3. Experience success with an emphasis on good sportsmanship.
4. Promote increased self-esteem among Rally Cap children and adults.
5. Recruiting new coaches and volunteers
Following warmup, two (2) teams play a twenty (20) minute game while one (1) team practices in the outfield. Every twenty (20) minutes, they switch so that each team plays two (2) games and has one (1) practice in the sixty (60) minute session
Modifications may be implemented during the games to ensure the players, coaches, and parent helpers remain engaged while still ensuring the players are taught the fundamentals of the game.
Each Rally Cap team ideally has a head coach and an assistant coach. Parents are encouraged to assist coaches as Parent Helpers.
The Junior House League Coordinator will set up a meeting prior to the season starting for coaches to meet each other, review the Rally Cap Package (schedule, rules, format, modifications, etc.), and ask questions. Practice plans and Rally Cap manuals created by Baseball Canada will be provided, providing various age-appropriate skill development drills and games.
