In the first weekend of January, few people have baseball on their minds. At Baseball Oshawa, we’re always looking for ways to improve throughout the entire year. That’s why our President, Bryan Howcroft, brought his family to Nashville, Tennessee for the American Baseball Coaches Association Convention and Trade Show. Association Secretary, Lisa Howcroft, and Life member Jim Lutton also made the trip to learn more about how to improve the game at all levels.

Over four days, coaches traded information, ideas, drills and skills that help their players and programs become the best they can be. Speakers from some of the most renowned schools and organizations in both collegiate and professional baseball were on hand. Presentation topics ranged from mental training, to practice planning, and even team and organizational culture. The ABCA reported over 8500 attendees in total, all descending on the Gaylord Opryland Resort for the event. Coaches came from all over the globe with countries including Sweden, Australia, and of course, Canada being represented. Many vendors Baseball Oshawa utilizes for equipment were on hand at the Trade Show as well. Over 250,000 square feet of show space was in use, demonstrating the latest in research and technology to improve the game at every level.

The show also included information for various tournaments our friends south of the border run, including Cooperstown All-star Village. Watch for more details about this exciting event as, once again, Baseball Oshawa will be sending a team to compete in this amazing tournament.  There were familiar faces to those in the baseball know, as well. Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan’s Ryan’s pitching coach, Tom House was in attendance, as was MLB all-star Manny Ramirez and Social Media personality Mark Paul.

The convention has become an annual event for Bryan and Lisa, and they’ve already booked for next years event to be held January 2024 in Dallas, Texas.
