The Jim Lutton Rookie Ball Classic was indeed a classic.

The Oshawa Legionaires hosted 15 of the top teams in the province on a perfect weekend for ball from July 21-24. The beautiful Durham College Lords turf field was the tournament headquarters and had the teams raving about the state-of-the-art facility.

As always, the skills competition on Saturday morning was an opportunity for the teams to get together on the field for an entertaining event as they showcased their skills and teamwork.

Baseball Oshawa would like to recognize and thank all the volunteers who made the tournament a success.

Many players and coaches chatted with Mr. Lutton, who spent a fair amount of time watching the games.

In the round-robin play LaSalle Titans, Oshawa Legionaires, and Kitchener Panthers won their pools with perfect 3-0 records, and the Guelph AAA Royals were first in their pool with a 2-1 record.

The LaSalle Titans downed the hometown Legionaires 9-5 in the semi-finals then scored an 8-5 championship-game victory over the Guelph Royals.
