Former Baseball Oshawa standout Denzel Clarke will get to showcase his talents on a big stage next week.

Less than a month after being promoted by the Oakland Athletics to the Lansing Lugnuts High-A, Clarke earned an invitation to the MLB 2022 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game.

The seven-inning American vs. National League game will take place at Dodger Stadium on Saturday, July 16 at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT. It will be broadcast live on Peacock and SiriusXM, with MLB Network producing the telecast and re-airing the game starting at 8:30 p.m. ET. Scott Braun (play-by-play), Yonder Alonso (analyst), Jim Callis (analyst) and A.J. Andrews (reporter) will be on the call.

Melissa Lockard of The Athletic spoke with A’s minor-league hitting coordinator Jim Eppard about the Pickering native and former National Junior Team member. Clarke went to Cal State Northridge where he played for the Matadors.

“Denzel, once we kind of started working with him a little bit more intensely on his swing and his body movements, he was able to grasp it pretty quickly,” Eppard said of the Oakland A's 4th round pick in the 2021 MLB draft. “He comes from a long line of very good athletes, and so it kind of made sense to him once we started to map it out for him.

“He showed some really good things in spring training, and is a tremendous athlete, great person. He’s fun to be around.”
