In a fairy tale ending, the Kendal Eagles won the Ted Stone Memorial Tournament on Sunday, July 10.
The Kendal Eagles were the tournament champions with a 9-8 win over the Guelph Royals at Kinsmen Memorial Stadium. This is fitting considering members of Ted Stone's family play on Kendal.
The Eagles had two wins and a tie to advance to the semi-finals vs Newmarket and pulled off a 5-1 win to reach the championship.
Guelph won its 3 round robin games and then edged North York by a 6-5 score on Sunday morning.
Kendal opened the tournament with a 16-0 win over the host Legionaires, who tied one game and lost two.
Oshawa lost 19-1 to North York and tied Mississauga 4-4.
Teams had positive things to say about the tournament organizers.
"Thank you to the Oshawa Tournament organizers for running such a smooth and successful tournament," said the coach of the North York Blues.
Congratulations to Coach Greg Deman, the 18U Midget Legioares and their volunteers for an excellent tournament.
