Oshawa Legionaires 9U stay hot, winning 3rd tournament of the year and improving its record to 26-2

The Oshawa Legionaires 9U AAA team headed to the Mississauga Southwest tournament this past weekend, already having 2 tournament championships under their belts. They opened the season early in May, winning the Guelph tournament and going 4-0, defeating Guelph 19-13 in the finals. They then headed to Mississauga North, where they went 5-0, defeating Oakville 7-5 in the final.

During this weekend's pool play, the Legionaires were 2-1 as they lost a tough game to Oakville 15-7. Things were not looking in our favour as we had to advance as the wild card 4th seed based on defensive runs against differential. Peterborough had full control to advance, heading into the 7 pm late game — in dramatic fashion, Peterborough ended up giving up 11 runs to Oakville AA in 6 innings, which gave Oshawa the DRA advantage 1.44 to 1.45 allowing Oshawa to advance to the semis as the wild card. Oshawa took full advantage of the second chance opportunity defeating Hamilton 9-8 in the semi-finals, booking a rematch in the finals with Oakville. Oshawa took the lead early against Oakville and never looked back, defeating Oakville 11-7.
Larrie Minaker, Jackson Miched, Liam Collette, Brody Frew, Jackson Slack and Carson Munns had multiple hits in the game for Oshawa. Larrie Minaker had 5 RBIs, with Brody Frew and Liam Collette collecting 3 each.

Defensively the infield for the Legionaires stole the show. Jackson Miched, Hunter Keay and Luke Simmons made multiple high-level defensive plays - with multiple double plays in the tournament.

Coach Miched could not be prouder of the way the team responded after suffering what we thought was a knockout loss to Oakville in pool play. The team took full advantage of the opportunity to play the best 2 games of the year against 2 of the top teams in the province. It is amazing to watch the players grow individually and as a team. The resilience and mental toughness the kids showed was unbelievable to watch. It is incredible to coach these 12 kids!
