Grant money to be used for House League equipment

he baseball season is a few months away, and Baseball Oshawa is getting a head start thanks to some help from the City of Oshawa!

The City's Partnership Grant means we will be able to use the $5,000 to purchase some much-needed equipment for our House League and Select programs.

"These past two years have been incredibly tough for our players due to the COVID-19 pandemic," said Ken Babcock, president of Baseball Oshawa. "Our volunteers have worked incredibly hard under difficult circumstances to continue to provide baseball to our kids safely throughout this pandemic. This is some incredibly exciting news that will directly help support our young players and their experience, and for that, we are truly thankful to the City of Oshawa."

"The grant will be used to replace a good chunk of the protective catchers' equipment for our players. Some of this equipment has not been replaced in several years," said Baseball Oshawa Treasurer Bryan Howcroft.

The association will use the grant to replace and upgrade the catcher's equipment for our House League and Select players.

The new equipment will help our teams stand out from their competition and ensure the kids are safe during practice and competition.

Howcroft added, "what's more, the families of baseball Oshawa players will know the city has invested in them as much as our volunteers have over the past two seasons."

Baseball Oshawa will continue to build on the successful grant application with fundraising and sponsorship efforts.

Once the new equipment arrives, the association hopes to thank the Mayor of Oshawa at a special pre-game ceremony as a celebration of the city's generosity.
